I just woke up for work. Gonna start my day now, get off work at 4:30, leave to Mill Valley at 5, check into the hotel at 6, get some swims in, go to the show, laugh super hard. I am too excited but that's a good thing. And I have the worst neck crampage from 3 days ago and slept like $hit again...

Wow! Lane and I met Maria!!! Ok, show was awesome to begin with. Dana Carvey and Robin Williams had surprise appearances but Maria KILLED! Amazing show and so many laughs. Maria hung out to see Robin Williams show and I wanted to meet her but not ruin her watching his show but the three of us (well, 4 including my mom) all sat in this nice seating and Maria talked with us for a few minutes. Lane has the pictures to come soon! Thanks Lane. Thanks Maria! Your #2 fan miss Bam!

Maria said she would come in here and by that I am not sure if she meant join us or just read this silliness. By the way, Baby Jesus called my phone last night and I'll never be the same! Kinda sounded like Maria *wink wink*

Yes, it's true, ShortyLP and I got to meet the SuperFox herself. To make a short story long... The afternoon before the show, I took a class at the San Francisco Comedy College from Sammy Wegent of the SPF7 improv group. I told him I was going to see Maria Bamford, and he said he'd opened for Maria in Florida. Sammy told me that SPF7 invited Maria to spend the day at a Florida waterpark, and she said yes. In fact, Maria posted the pictures on her site - www.mariabamford.com/pictures/destin_2004.php. Sammy said that Maria was very nice and quite shy, which is what everyone seems to say about her. He also says it shouldn't be hard to meet Maria after the show. But he doesn't want to go to the show with me, because he's got a show of his own to do that night. Just like all my other friends, who tend to be amateur comedians and theater people. So after class, I drive up by myself to the Marin show. Right when I get in line I recognized SLP from her myspace page - she's standing in line with her mom about 7 spots ahead of me. She doesn't know what I look like because I don't have any pictures of myself posted online. And here's where it got a little awkward. Shorty and I had been making email plans to meet at the show until she found out that I was a 41 year old guy, and for some reason she suddenly said she wasn't interested in meeting after all. Hmmmm, maybe she thought a 41 year old man and a 23 year old girl meeting in person after Internet chatting was sort of CREEPY Now why would that be? Hey Jess, what did you think the 65 in lanebrain65 stood for? There aren't 64 other lanebrains out there. So I didn't approach SLP, even when her and her mom ended up sitting maybe 15 feet away from me. I bought my general seating ticket on-line, and it turns out almost all of the good floor seats are sold at the theater for $10 extra. I would have paid the extra $10, but now they are all sold out. But I end up snagging a seat in a small row at the back on the ground floor, right smack in the middle. The show was really good. Mark Pitta was the host, and he did a bit of material and introduced another comic. I don' remember his name -- he was a black guy with dreadlocks and his act was mostly stoner jokes. And then Dana Carvey came out and tried out about an hour of material for his Conan appearance on Monday. They were all funny, but I must admit I was tapping my watch going "Where's the Bammer? You are wasting precious Bamford time!" Forgive me for going into so much detail, but meeting Maria was the highlight of my year -- so far, anyways. And I gotta split right now. Next episode - Maria performs, and I finagle my way into meeting Le Bamf herself. - Lane

That sounds terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrible about me. First of all from the beginning I knew you were my mom's age and that was not the issue. The issue was me going with my mom and meeting anyone I never met before would be awkward. Even waiting with her to meet Maria was awkward because the whole idea of going to the show was to take my mom out and laugh and have a good time with no questions asked. I made my mom waite so I could hopefully meet Maria and if it wasn't for you, I would have been too chicken $hit to walk up to Maria herself. I appreciate your effort of coming over and saying "hi" to me and I think you're a very nice person. And I appreciate you being like "That girl is here to meet you as well" to Maria. This has been the best weekend ever and your effort of meeting her was wonderful and getting me over on the couch next to her was super sweet! Hey, you've even got pictures of US on YOUR camera and I coulda gottem on mine but you were so kind and got them on yours.

And hell if I remembered to compliment her outfit! It went so perfect with the stage set up. Maria looked so cool in her velvety blazer and ruffle shirt and the slacks.

Oh, that's very nice of your, SLP. I guess I took your change of heart too personally. Although I wasn't really taking it personally because you don't know me and it is a good thing for young women such as yourself to be safety conscious meeting people from chat rooms.
Anyway, on to complete my novel-length post about meeting Maria. I'm sure the other 12 members of this board will all appreciate my effort.

Man, she did look smoking hot in that outfit. SuperFox! I wanted to tell Maria "You are superlative! You are hyperbole!" but I forgot too.

There were so many people at the show w/ obvious plastic surgery. So many people w/ botox too and it was all laughs and no smiles.

So, to continue.
Maria finally came out on stage looking, as SLP mentioned, super fine in cool looking vest with a fluffy shirt, black jeans and boots, and of course the party perm.
She opened with some new material:
"I'm thinking about having kids. I have the names picked out. They're going to be "Donut" and "The Golden Hen". I know what you're saying, 'How do you know they're going to be girls?' But a mother knows..."
And then she did her hysterical bit about leaving messages from the Baby Jesus on her mother's answering machine.
Maria's Mom: "Maria, stop leaving those answering machine messages from the Baby Jesus! They're creepy!" Maria: "The Baby Jesus is leaving you phone messages? You better call him back!"
More on the Baby Jesus later.
Then she did a new bit that I cannot adequately describe. It was a bizarre, theatrical piece using her hands and voice to draw a map of the world, with each country having a different voice and movement and having them all interact in a world war. I couldn't do it justice in person, much less in writing. I swear, there is just no one out there doing the kind of innovative material that Maria comes up with. It's so far out from the standard set-up, punch, set-up punch that most comics do. She's completely unique.
I tried to video some of this from my cell phone, but unfortunately I was too far from the stage to get a decent recording. Sorry, guys.
Anyways, the rest of the evening was older material with some new twists here and there. She did the Miss America contestant doing stand up for the talent contest. And she did the Anxieties Song and the Christy Coombs Arch-Rival meeting and the bit about Venette the arrogant coworker ignoring her - 'Venette! Venette! Why won't you tell me the wonderful cat story?" LOL That bit still makes me laugh every time I hear it.
Maria finished up after an hour plus. And the host came out and thanked everyone, and did announcements for coming shows, and everyone was half way out the door when Robin Williams came out. So everyone rushed back into their seats and Robin started improvising. I had thought that Maria's delivery wasn't quite as strong as I'd seen her in the past, and it could be she was a little nervous performing after Dana Carvey and before Robin Williams. That's a hell of a slot.
I got up after ten minutes of Robin Williams, though, to go find someone who could introduce me to Maria. The opening comic was standing at the door and so I went over to ask him. Then I looked down - quite a bit down - and saw ShortyLongPants, who is like 4' and change tall and obviously had the same idea I did.
So I thought what the hell, and introduced myself to SLP and her mother, and she seemed to be cool with it. The host Mark Pitta was in the foyer, and he said Maria was upstairs in the balcony watching Robin Williams and we should just go up and introduce ourselves. And SLP and I looked at each other like "Can we do that?"
So we went upstairs and there was Maria in the flesh, standing at the back of the balcony watching the show. After Robin Williams closed, I went up to Maria and said, "Hey, Maria, I'm here with some people from your fan board. Would you mind meeting with us?"
And she was very gracious, as everyone said she would be, and said "Oh, yes! Of course! Let's go sit down!". So I gave the thumbs up to SLP and we all went and sat down on these antique chairs and couches they had in the foyer behind the balcony. Yes!! Contact!!
Next episode: Hangin' with Ms. Bamford

Sweetness! Lane sent me one of the pics with Maria and I. My eyes are closed so I need to think up a caption for this one: Doesn't Maria have the coolest outfit? Maybe the caption could be "best way to prevent red eye while looking perverted". I look very silly but I got a picture with Maria.
