I discovered Maria Bamford through her gateway drug Patton Oswalt via the Comedians of Comedy tour. The Pennsylvania Macaroni Comp. disc is still one of my favorites, as the interplay between these comedy savants was too human and funny not to send me into internal convulsions of laughter.
But after listening to (and later getting) her albums, I've found that Maria is the real deal. She combines the dark, the upbeat and the sublime in a way that I have never seen before. After listening to her newest album I also have to appreciate the way she consistently comes up with fresh, amazing material and a delivery to match (which puts her perhaps an edge over Mr. Oswalt in my book). The air is pretty thin at her talent level, and I've never seen a comedian (I shun the divisive term "comedienne") integrate her personality into her output so thoroughly and enjoyable.
Anyway, I doubt Maria will see this, but she's really, really fantastic and I'm going to have to follow her records for some time (and hope she makes it down to Salt Lake City for a show sometime).
NOTE: (Oh, and I'm glad to see her breaking the top-selling comedy albums list on Amazon! Still she deserves much better than #44.)
