Not that I know her, but I have been a fan since, well probably when her first Comedy Central aired. When was that like 1998? 2002? 2112?
Anyway, I have watched that special a few million times. I like to think I know something about comedy and she immediately stood out to me and some of the stuff had me randomly laughing for days. "Sure, I'll join your cult". When you watch a lot of stand up comedy you start to feel like everybody is doing the same bits and Maria's stuff is unique.
Since then we have seen her do her "one person sitcom" down at the Fake Gallery a couple times (we drag friends), we have seen her at the improv (I think it was on the Tonight Show "do your six minutes" night) at least once.
I watched the "C of C" tour video and the one with the real material, both of which were short on Maria. Those guys are all good (though we walked out on Zach one time at the improv, he gets a little too into himself at the piano sometimes) but there is only a certain amount of footage of watching Patton and Kevin buy comic books that I need. And its quite small.
Lastly we saw her last Comedy Central special and I tried to buy the CD's today and was given the thumbs down from the site. What's up with all the "Buy Now" on the home page and then it just tells you to go get it at Amazon?
I watched all the episodes of the Maria Bamford show on Super Deluxe and it was hilarious although it got a little scary at times trying to figure out what, if anything, was true and what wasn't.
And I'm ready to buy, watch, rent, go to, whatever Maria is doing next. I really hope she gets on TV. We love Jim Gaffigan as well and he is really great on "My Boys". We checked that show out because of him and my wife watched the whole first season in one sitting. So if he can do it (and he is a really good actor, who knew?) then Maria should, she's basically acting all the time.
Oh and my wife emailed Maria once or twice with a question or comment about the Fake Gallery shows (I really hope I am getting that name right) and she got a super nice response from Maria the next day both times. So Nice Lady does appear to be an accurate description.
I'm a composer so I know how hard it is to just keep working and keep the rent paid, and I used to tour so I know how crappy that can be, and I can't imagine how it must be when they reject "you" personally rather than your work. So I really hope it happens and please stay in the comedy business. We rely on your services to keep us sane.
